IHA01 – VTCT (Skillsfirst) Level 1 Award in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry (RQF)
Qualification summary
This qualification has been designed for anyone who is pursuing a career in the Hospitality Industry by making you better prepared for a specific role in this sector. This in turn will give you an advantage when applying for jobs by making you “work ready”. Job roles could include, but are not restricted to:
- bar person/manager
- catering/restaurant manager
- chef
- cleaner
- concierge
- food processing operative
- housekeeper
- kitchen assistant/porter
- receptionist, etc.
As this qualification is 100% vocational you will learn about many aspects of the industry and gain valuable practical and teamwork skills. The qualification covers a range of topics such as:
- customer service
- serving food and drink
- healthy eating
- using kitchen equipment
- basic food preparation.
Having achieved this qualification, you could move on to a full Level 2 qualification in the hospitality industry including Apprenticeships or into employment.
This qualification is not suitable for learners undertaking a traineeship. For a traineeship you would look at our Level 1 Award in Introduction to Employment in Hospitality which provides you with a basic understanding of the industry.
This qualification does not require you to have any prior qualifications or levels of previous learning. There is no minimum age requirement for this qualification.

Qualification structure
To achieve this qualification, learners must achieve a minimum of 10 Credits, of which:
- 5 Credits must be achieved from the mandatory units
- A minimum of 1 credit from Group B units
- The remaining 4 credits can be achieved from either Groups B and/or C
Minimum Guided Learning Hours (GLH) are 84
